For many years, St. Porphyrios Orthodox Christian Mission existed as a military chapel, serving the members of the United States Marine Corps and the United States Navy, near Camp Lejeune. Because meeting on base restricted access to the Orthodox faithful in the area, plans were made to pursue an off-base home for the new mission church, so all Orthodox Christians could be united. In 2019, a parish council was established and plans were made to move off-base. St. Porphyrios Orthodox Mission Church is elated to have its doors open in a place that is accessible to everyone.
The Eastern Orthodox Church is one of the oldest religious institutions in the world, teaching that it is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church established in His Great Commission to the Apostles, and practicing the original faith passed down from the Apostles. We are Christians who believe in the divinity and sinlessness of Christ, His death, burial and resurrection and the undivided Holy Trinity.
